Kookie's New House
Hi everyone!
So I have recently started going a little mad with hamsters! Looking at different care and discovering the actual minimum space they really should have...
So first of all, Kookie the robo dwarf was adopted last year 15th Jan 2019. She has been with us for 1 year.. So far she has spent all of that time living in her liddy biddy cage with a wheel that got stuck. She had the habits of monkey barring and gnawing on the bars quite often. I started thinking that she MUST be so bored stuck in that cage. So I changed how I did her bedding, filling the bottom with sawdust to the brim so she could dig around, as well as scatter feeding and burying seeds so she could forage. Straight away she was so much happier and for about a month she didn't even have her habits of gnawing bars or monkeying!
(I was going to add an image but haven't got a URL! ?...)
So I thought id go a step further and create her a bigger enclosure! I made it my self (apart from wheel and the assault tower). So far I think she is happy, she is definitely more social and happy to see me as well
Hopefully some pictures to come soon when I catch her being still! Lol

Re: Kookie's New House
Hi,
I use imgur for posting pictures (because I haven't yet worked out how to attach them). You upload the photo to imgur, then copy the "direct link" url. Then, when typing a reply in the forum, click the little image icon and paste the url. Make sure to resize your photo to a Large Thumbnail because otherwise they come out absolutely huge.

There's a very clear step by step guide to uploading photos here.

Re: Kookie's New House
Brilliant thank you, that is so easy to do now I know Lol
So here are a few pictures for you.. Starting off with her original cage..
Then I DIY'ed a box and added to it from there I was keeping tabs on my expenses for this, though got so far and didn't want to know any more!
I have also ordered online a bag of bird sprays including millet and other seeds (£3.49 I think it was and turned out to be a lot bigger than I thought!) but then saw at pets at home a massive clump of millet for 65p! Hm will see how she likes what iv got her so far first
Shes always been a bit of a climber, so has now figured out how to get to top of the assault tower and then down a hole onto the wood sides. I am going to add some sort of railing onto the sides though as shes not figured out how to turn onto the next just yet..

Re: Kookie's New House
That new cage looks great, and so much more spacious than the old one. I like the little digging corner.
