Best for you to measure where you want what and then do the math.
I'm going to attach the lid panels now.

I think I'm going to get the Samla on the 5th and go to b&q on the following weekend! I'll look around for a good mesh with the correct spacing and will measure how much I need before

That sounds a very good plan. There are different types of mesh available and its definitely better to have a look and then chose a suitable one.
This one here is from Wickes i think and looks nice on a wooden framed lid because its goldy coloured.

Re: Bin cage mesh/knife
Been to B&Q for something i needed and checked out the mesh too.
They have two suitable types, both in rolls for £10 ea.
The larger one i use 13mmx13mm in a 5m roll and the smaller 6mmx6mm in a 2.5m roll which i have also used. Both are galvanised and made by Blooma and both are easy to cut and work with. They had no suitable sheets as that mesh was too large but the roll is more economical anyway.
You may want to go for the 6mmx6mm for a Robo so he can't get his nose stuck which is unlikely but hamsters have left me speechless on more than one occasion....

Re: Bin cage mesh/knife
That 6*6 roll sounds perfect! Hopefully the bin cage should be done this weekend so I will upload pictures then. Thank you for all your help Ria you have been a godsend!
