Default Home made hamster carrier

Hi all,

I need to take 2 hamsters to the vets. I already have a small (hamster prison) cage that I can use for 1,(this is what Luna was adopted in, it is not used as a cage) and for the other I was just going to make one out of an old small plastic box I have.

This will probably only be used once, so for a visit to the vets would it be enough ventilation to just drill holes in the top of the box or would it still need mesh?

The hamster will be in it max 1 hour.

Thanks,

I have seen many people (on the internet) permanently keeping their hamsters in bin cages with only drilled holes on the lid for ventilation. I personally won't recommend anyone doing that for a permanent home, but I think it's ok if you drill lots of holes and it is only for an hour.

Also, what if you drilled holes at the side as well? I think a general concern about too many holes at the side is that the hamster might bite them big enough to escape, but I don't think your hamster can do that in one hour.

Hopefully more people can give input on this, as I am still a learner.

That should be alright for a short while.

Who is the other hamster??!

Do you have another one now apart from your Luna?

I'd love a second hamster, a male dwarf so Henry wouldn't get jealous.

As long as you drill a lot of holes, it will be fine.
