Easiest detolf lid option.
Hello,
I just wanted to share an idea I had regards making a lid for the detolf.
I was going to make the typical wood and mesh lid that I've seen so many versions of, but was aprehensive as I am not that much of a DIYer and wanted it to look really good.
What I have decided to do instead is to use the glass shelves, but with rubber cable clips connecting them to the inner wire of the cage.
At the moment our hamster is still a baby, and also not currently interested in escape, so I have used the 3 shelves over the highest points. I plan to add one more shelf to increase coverage. This will still allow for plenty of air circulation, as well as look quite nice I think.
I'm also planning to add a small handle onto each partition, to use to slide across or lift the glass as needed.
The glass is held very firmly, but is easily removed.
The clips are self adhesive and super easy to apply.
What do you guys think?

Re: Easiest detolf lid option.
It's a good idea in principle, however, whilst there are large gaps between the glass I would worry about the lack of decent ventilation and the possibility of the hamster being able to escape between the glass panels

Hi, thanks for the feedback
Totally agree , so after thinking going back to the drawing board (still dont want to face making a lid!).
I came up with this variation. I used the original three shelves, and Tickis original cage lid. The three partitions are now much closer to prevent escapes, and the cage allows a lot more air to flow through. Plus it adds another level
Will be putting in a platform for her on that level plus a few other hanging bits, maybe a hammock...
I feel better about this now.
Do you think its an improvement on the original idea?
Ps I can totally take constructive criticism 😊
The cage sits snugly on the wire, but have tied it on as well ....

That looks amazing! You say you're not much of a DIYer but I'd never be able to do something like this! I just about managed to do a basic flat double lid made of wood and mesh.
You have a very lucky hamster

Aw thanks 😊 to be fair, am ok with ideas but not with actually making things. These were already made, I just found a way to attach them 🙈
Appreciate the feedback so much, thanks. Now time to stop playing hamster house making and actually tidy my own place up lol
Have a great evening xx
