Some people use the samla bins from Ikea for bin cages, they aren't that big though & slope at the sides so don't have a lot of floor space, especially for a Syrian.
I have the 145L RUB which is available from various places online, worth googling it to compare prices, it is an expensive bin but very strong & it has straight sides so you don't lose out on floor space, still not as big as most of the larger cages but I think it's probably the biggest bin you can get.

I think the 145l RUB bin is the best for a Syrian - the Really Useful box website sells it for about £39. It is a really good size because it's about 60cm deep as well as about 80cm long. I think the Samla bin is too small for a Syrian with syrian sized stuff in.

However as the RUB bin isn't cheap, it makes an Alaska cage a good option instead - it's about £34 from Zooplus and no diy Although it does need a house and a wheel but then so would a bin cage.

Alternatively found one at Asda (have never seen it before myself though) for £16 with £3 delivery. 84x54x44cm external dimensions. Someone’s posted cage setup on the 2 pack version (£25!) for size reference.

And one on amazon for £30 that I can’t link because I’m on the app, called Crystal 133L box. Someone’s used it as a mouse cage and posted a photo too. It is narrow as dimensions are 99x39.5x42cm so internally would be narrower. Best for a dwarf really and more expensive.

I have my little Syrian boy in an Ikea samla bin. But little is the operative word. He’s an adult but he only weighs 150g and is pretty tiny, for a bigger hamster I don’t think it would be big enough. As it is I’m thinking of getting something bigger for him so I will check out the suggestions. I prefer bin cages to wire ones as I had a hamster whose favourite past time was to throw bedding through the bars all over the carpet. Bin cages keep my room cleaner!

I agree Samla or RUB's are the best bins to us
e. I rate the RUB's slightly higher as the lids are clipped on a bit more securely and the plastic is a bit tougher

Hi. I'm a noob to this bin cage setup too.

I have bought the 84lt RUB from Argos in Truro, Cornwall at £18.00 as a starter home for my Syrian (who has yet to arrive) and plan to get the 145lt in the future and attach the two together so this one will become the loft (not sure quite how yet).

In my ancient past experience my Syrians have been overwhelmed by such a huge space when new so I know my initial setup is considered a bit too small but it won't be for long in case anyone is worried that it will be a permanent situation!

My main point is that I've never had a RUB box before and, assuming the larger one is the same build, it seems ideal! The inside is straight all the way down as other posters have said, it is super sturdy, and all the reinforced edges that stick out at funny angles are on the outside so no chew risk that I can see.

I would highly recommend although my nonexistent as of now hamster can't vouch for that opinion quite yet.

Another good point to make is that my local Argos stocks the other sizes too or you can click and collect and save on postage for such a bulky item. I don't drive so pick-up was a deciding factor. The UK, especially where I live, seems to be lacking in physical shops you can buy suitable items. I've spent hours upon hours looking into this exact thing!

Hope this helps and nice to 'meet' you. And good luck!
