Hamster blocking tube!
Hey guys!
So my hamster, Bella, is being a bit of a pickle! She uses her bedding and stuffs her tube with it (this is the tube in the Savic hamster heaven). I was just wondering if you think i should block off the tube as she is struggling to burrow through it and get to the rest of the cage as she is getting stuck in the green compartment at the top!!!

Re: Hamster blocking tube!
Hello and welcome to the forum!
I believe many people remove the top compartment and the tube as it isn't that well ventilated. It is a great size cage so she shouldn't hate you for it!

Re: Hamster blocking tube!
This is a really common problem with tubes, it's best to use the stoppers that come with the cage & block of the tubes & remove the penthouse too.
Make sure she has a nice large house with no base laid directly on the substrate & she'll soon get over not having them & settle herself in again.

Re: Hamster blocking tube!
Hi there CBB. As the others have said, this is a common problem. The HH is a good cage with the large front door for access and taming. Depending on the hamster's character a larger cage may be needed later on but not always.
If you look at my thread 'Maestro is here' in the Syrian hamster section, you can see a photo I posted yesterday showing my new baby's set up in an HH now that I have added a wheel. He only came home 2 weeks ago and is now 2 months old. You will see that I don't use the tubes, green house or any of the slippery steep ladders and shelves. A lot of people design their own and more stimulating interiors. It is fun to do as well as being better for the hamster.
