Default shelfs in tank

hi im new to all this ive bought a 3ft tank and wanting to put sum shelfs in for my daughters hamster. witch would be safest would or plastic please advise me thanks

As long as it's safe wood like kiln dried pine then either wood or plastic is fine, it's quite easy to make your own shelves with a piece of wood & some dowels cut to length for legs.

Some people make shelves for tanks out of Ikea knuff magazine racks You don't have to, but you can also make a fence round the edge with little wood dowels. The holes in the end need blocking off (eg glue a couple of wood dowels over) or they can get stuck.

I don't know really. I think most plastic is fine - if it gets chewed you need to check for sharp edges. The Germans won't use anything plastic! Only natural things and wood. I don't know anyone who has had a problem using plastic items unless they get chewed badly and sharp edges.
