Re: Is Birch Plywood of safe
Generally in the US plywood wouldn't be safe including birch plywood(not true solid wood, generally heavily processed and glued together, etc). It's best to avoid it and only use plain untreated or kiln dried wood of safe varieties instead

Re: Is Birch Plywood of safe
Unless it says it's non toxic then probably not. Rodipet in Germany use birch plywood but theirs is made with non toxic glue. Most plywood isn't. Birchwood is fine, but it's the glue in plywood off gassing that can be an issue. Plain kiln dried pine is ok, although can be a bit thick. Having said that, a lot of people use Ikea Knuff magazine racks to make shelves with and that's probably plywood, but is tried and tested as ok. So maybe get some of those? What are you making?

Knuff
KNUFF Magazine file, set of 2 - IKEA
Some plywood is probably better than others depending on the source and it's difficult to know - I would be cautious. Formaldehyde can off gas even if sealed, but Knuff racks should be ok.
