Default Tubes!

I started making these tubes because I tried to give Wasabi store bought tubes and she's so fluffy she got stuck trying to go to her other cage. LOL ! So there's 3 different methods and I am going to go through all of them.

Method 1:
First you'll need to gather some paper towel tubes. Them you'll need to wash or rinse them to get the glue stuff off the sides so if your hamster wants to use it as a chew they won't eat the glue. If you have a Syrian you might wanna cut 2 tubes in half and use a hamster-safe glue to connect the tubes so the hole is bigger. This isn't to connect cages though, it's more of a play tube.

Method 2:
This method is pretty simple but not really advised for people with low crafting skills. It requires clean cans, tape, and something that can cut the can. It's pretty simple like I mentioned before...you cut off the end of the cans and tape them together until you get the tube(s) as long as you want them. This is usually for connecting cages that are right next to each other. Make sure the ends of the cans are smooth so your hamster doesn't get cut.

Method 3:
You need water bottles, tape, and something to cut the water bottles with. Basically, you cut off the ends of the water bottle and tape them together. These are my favorite because you can make huge tube structures.

Nice ideas but I wouldn't use tape on something a hamster could chew & water bottle plastic is quite brittle, easily chewed & not safe.

Agree with cypher, I wouldn't be too keen on using the cans either.

Both tape and water bottles aren't safe. But toilet paper bottles are perfectly fine. If you want to attach tubes why not use flour glue? It's a mixture of 50% flour and 50% water.

Did I not say hamster-safe glue? And the tape goes on the outside, the water bottle tubes are for hamsters that DON'T chew, and what does "brittle" mean?!

Brittle means it breaks easily & it's quite sharp when it does too. Even on the outside tape isn't safe, it could still be chewed, the only really safe things for home made tubes are cardboard, non toxic glue or something like sisal string.

I know you said hamster safe glue, but you only mentioned it in the terms of connecting paper towel tubes. You could also use the hamster safe glue for connecting the cans.
Even if there is tape that is on the outside, your hamster still could get to the outside of the tube and chew on the tape. Duct tape and other types of tape have been know to cause serious issues in hamsters who accidentally ingested them.
You can never guarantee that a hamster wouldn't chew on the water bottle. It's like putting spchocolate inside their cage, assuming they wouldn't eat it because they're a picky eater.

Just wondering, if you put duct tape on the outside, how's your hamster going to get out? All jokes aside: Who's hamster, by a show of replies, is strong enough to rip cans apart being held together by duct tape? Sorry if this sounds rude because it's not meant to be. But really...

Even if the cans are clean and the hamster never manages to get to the duct tape, there are other issues with cans like the surface becoming rough and causing serious injury.Or in the case of some cans, you'd take a serious risk of introducing a hidden danger. That hidden danger is BPA,which is surprisingly common among cans and plastic containers.

Unfortunately BPA is known to cause cardiovascular problems, cancer, reproductive problems, and impaired brain development(not just in humans, but in animals as well).Studies which are not industry funded almost always conclude this result,so while there may be some extremely biased(and therefore not credible)studies to make it appear that BPA is perfectly safe,it is still a very serious risk even at low levels.Even cans and such labelled as BPA-free can contain BPS,which is equally dangerous if not even more dangerous If it were merely minor exposure occasionally(such as feeding high quality canned dog or cat food free of biproducts and other horrible ingredients)then it would be slightly less concerning, but as something that will be used on a frequent basis it is best to just avoid.
