Default IKEA Linnmon Cage Glass Window?

Good Morning everyone!

I am currently (well, BF is, I am just handing over the tools) building the IKEA Linnmon Cage by VanillaHamHam. We have everything except for the glass window on the front. The Hemnes Glass Top does not stock in IKEA anymore. The measurements of this is Width: 108cm, Height: 50cm, Depth 0.5cm. Yesterday I contacted and placed an order with a glass cutting company on the other side of London, and today they told me they weren't able to process the order for a few weeks as they are having company issues...

I have looked everywhere, including IKEA, Gumtree, and hardware stores. A lot will cut glass but for a really expensive price. I have also looked at PlexiGlass being ordered but these companies are charging so much money in VAT at the end of the order... I know I might have to just part with my money (I want nothing more than to create this beautiful lovely cage for my happy ham) but I thought I'd come here for some suggestions first on what could be used - or any advice if you have made this cage before!

Thank you

I know perspex can be expensive but I'd have thought someone local could get you a piece of glass the right size not too expensively. After all, a replacement pane in a single glazed window isn't that expensive. Maybe try a local hardware store or phone a local glazier?

Or this place online does perspex and for those measurements it works out at £29.13 (1080mm x 500mm x 50mm) which is the mm equivalent of cm. Not sure what the postage would be though.

Thank you for your reply,

I think perhaps I'm still adjusting to London prices as we haven't been living here all that long and come from Cardiff where it would probably be much cheaper! I will do a little bit more searching today for a local glazier perhaps, and I'll also check out the Perspex delivery as that would also be an option for us. Thank you for your help!

Delivery looks to be between £4 and £10 depending on the weight. I don't envy you dealing with London prices! I hate to think what they are. I was surprised how much perspex can cost having researched it before - £29 is probably reasonable but then the cage starts to get expensive.

Erinsanimals on YouTube has just uploaded a video of an adapted stackable version of the cage you're building.
She built a wooden frame covered in chicken wire for the face of the cage.
Perhaps you could consider doing the same.
