Default Water proofing wood

https://www.amazon.com/Deft-03712501...=Spray+Lacquer

Is this hamster safe? It says baby safe on it, I need to water proof a wheel and someone suggested this to me on here long ago? But I just wanted to make sure.

I wouldn't recommend using it as it contains aerosol which is toxic for humans to breathe in, so imagine what affect it could have on a hamster! Plastikote is a good substance to use in order to add a layer of protection. It may be so that this item isn't super toxic, but it's best to stick with what you know works

I'd say Milk Paint and the same brand's seal from Hobbycraft(ordered online, they do international delivery). Most sealants are extremely risky and even if labelled as non-toxic that is not an immediate guarantee of being safe for hamsters.Lots of things can be labelled non-toxic while including harmful dyes and other things,or things which would not be harmful to humans but would be extremely unsafe for hamsters.

I'm not too sure how well soy paint would work for the sealing purpose, though it does need to be ordered online. It would be completely safe though, and there are some other options like finding a completely natural milk(casein, also known as milk protein, based)paint.I know there are also clay based paints but those would not be entirely safe as if ingested they wouldn't be remotely digestible, unlike soy paint or milk paint(unless you get something which is not true milk paint).

DO NOT heat it up! Plastikote and most finish products are highly combustible and heating them can cause fires, explosions, and toxic fumes. I'm not quite sure how to get it back to liquid just wanted to give you the warning to make sure you stay safe. Somebody here is bound to know how though

Yikes, glad i didnt do that then. Not sure how to "thaw" it out.. I found a listing for clear plastikote on amazone for cheap. So I'll wait for that.

There are two types of plastikote that you paint on so make sure it's the water based one you get, it has a plastic lid, the ones with the metal lid aren't suitable, it should say water based on the jar.

The plastikote you find in the US is an automotive kind and not safe.Unless there is somehow a way to import plastikote from the UK legally(and at a reasonable price, considering the potential charges and ridiculous expense if it goes badly),it isn't likely that you'd be able to get plastikote.

If you can't find plastikote another water based enamel should work just fine. Make sure that it's a WATER based enamel (that's what plastikote is) and it would be even better if you can find a water based enamel with a pet safe lavel.
