Imogene's IRIS Bin Cage
I've had my Syrian, Imogene, since mid-October and finally got around to making her a large bin cage earlier this month (the poor girl had been making do with a 20L tank). The bin I used is an IRIS Christmas Tree Storage container with an interior bottom measurement of 48Lx17.5W (840 square inches); with the deep lid on, it's 14.5" high, tall enough to accommodate a new Carolina Storm Wheel to replace her smaller comfort wheel plus deeper bedding.
To create the bin cage, I cut out a 30x15 piece from the lid and replaced it with 19-gauge steel hardware cloth (1/2" mesh), attached to the lid frame with machine screws, washers and nuts on the short ends and plastic zipties on the long sides.
The finished product may seem a bit bare but Imogene isn't very interested in toys, preferring bendy bridges and wood tubes to scurry through (and chew on), her beloved wheel, a few scattered chewable items and a dangling bird toy made from coconut shells. Her hide is a raised wooden platform, the top of which holds her food dish and treat bowl. She's been very happy in her new home and spends a lot of time tunneling, popping up here and there like a little groundhog

Re: Imogene's IRIS Bin Cage
Very nice, I like the set up and way you constructed the cage. I believe I have this same bin for my hamster Duncan. Good to hear she's settling in well

Re: Imogene's IRIS Bin Cage
Wow that bin is huge, definitely a good bin to consider if you live in the US and want to do a DIY hamster cage.

I just got the Iris bin yesterday for $18, I bought some supplies today. I was wondering if you can PM the pictures of your cage. For some reason I am not able to see some pictures in most forums. Thank you

Re: Imogene's IRIS Bin Cage
The reason you can't see the photos is that many of us used Photobucket to host photos & they suddenly stop doing free hosting so unfortunately many photos have just gone now.
This is quite an old post now & the OP may no longer be active so you might do better to start a new post.

Re: Imogene's IRIS Bin Cage
I did make a new post but the only replies I got were like "did you look through other forums" and links to an old post.
