Default Extending a Billy cage - ideas needed!

Hi everyone,

My little Winter White lives in an Ikea Billy cage (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qy-GKabRQdY).

I'm keen to extend it, but would like to do this vertically rather than horizontally.

Has anyone got any ideas? I thinking of resting a second Billy on top and then adding some ventilation panels to the sides of the one underneath. I think this would work, but to get to the bottom cage, I would need to lift the top cage off and it's quite heavy!

I'd be grateful for any creative ideas!

Thanks

If you make the new cage with a door etc for access and also add ventilation. The new cage could go on the bottom and the existing cage could go on the top.

Then you need a way for the hamster to safely get from between the levels. A ramp would be best. A rectangle cut out of the base of the new (top) cage and used as the ramp (possibly put hinges on it so it can be hinged back up to block access between the cages for cleaning, cage moving etc).

Cages are best longer than high, but if you don't have room to do that, at least your hamster will have another area to play/explore.
