Question Coloured Card: Safe Materials

Hi everyone!

I couldn't find an existing thread to answer my question so was wondering if anyone knew if using coloured card/paper is safe for hamster?

The only paper I know of that would be safe would be plain unbleached acid free paper.Since dyes in coloured card or other papers are of unknown origin,it's better to not consider them safe at all as if ingested they could be harmful to hamsters.

It depends on the kind of card you mean.

I'm not too sure on what the card they sell in stationary shops would be like for use with hamsters and would probably stick to something like plain, cheap toilet tissue myself.

I have given my hamsters cardboard boxes from biscuits, teabags and the like to play with many times and they've been fine with that, even when they've chewed them so that could be an option for you but it depends on what you're hoping to do with it.

I was going to use coloured (stock?) card the sort they sell in a4 sheets normally, think i'll try an play around with vegetable paints to see if the creates the desired colour/look or not!

I was just hoping card would be okay as the colours can be so much brighter but of course will not risk if I don't know they are 100% safe
