Re: 2x Large bin cage habitat
You've put a lot of time & creativity into this I can see!
I really hope it will turn out to be hamster heaven for them throughout their lives.
I was saying on another thread to upgrading the wheels to 6.5 in Silent Spinner or 2 Wodent Wheel Jr, I have one WW in each of their cages. If you have room they also would have fun on a medium sized flying saucer, it would be cute seeing them on the saucer together
The Silent Spinners are not being made that well, if they have zero resistance then the hammies can move the wheel real good.
Wodent wheels are not defective if you want to order a couple.

Re: 2x Large bin cage habitat
I had to disassemble and inspect all the silent spinners at the store to ensure they had the old-style axles.
I have big flying saucers but they're too light to turn them.

Re: 2x Large bin cage habitat
So they should be full grown now, should be able to move a medium sized saucer but they vary in resistance too. I had to return one cause my robo couldn't move it. Maybe check different flying saucer wheel? They do look young. I would have guessed 3 mo by the pic
Are they enjoying their new home so far so good?

Re: 2x Large bin cage habitat
I agree that you need to upgrade the wheels, I know robos are pretty tiny but the smallest silent spinner (I think that's what you have?) really is too small for them.

Re: 2x Large bin cage habitat
It depends on the size of an individual robo I think. Some robos could get away with a 4 inch wheel if they were on the extremely tiny side, but larger robos would of course need a larger wheel.
In this case if the robos are about 2 inches long, the 4 inch wheel would be the absolute minimum for them.If they're anything over that(even a fraction of an inc),a larger wheel is definitely necessary. It depends on individual hamsters though, but in general a 6 inch wheel would give a bit more room for robos up to 3 inches in length.

Re: 2x Large bin cage habitat
Have you actually seen one of those wheels for real?
Theoretical measurements may sound ok but I do have one of those wheels, (the first wheel I ever bought, quickly rectified of I hasten to add!) & they really are too small for any ham, even a robo to run comfortably with a straight back.

Re: 2x Large bin cage habitat
I would go with a 6 inch wheel personally. In terms of scientific measurement though, things get complicated because with circles interior dimensions can be a bit small by a few cm.Or,worse,a hamster could be a few cm larger than 2 inches and then that goes into consideration.
Overall though, there is a scientific approach to wheel sizing and there is also the old school if their back doesn't arch it's okay approach. Both work fine for the most part, but there's a whole different issue with side arching from other wheels and if a hamster is a few cm over the inch mark and with other animals accounting for tail room and velocity and so many things just doesn't get factored in Probably even an 8 inch wheel wouldn't hurt though.
It all depends on so many factors though overall but the best option would be an upright 6 inch wheel that is of course solid.Flying saucers aren't exactly the best option for various reasons, but that can wait for a while unless necessary since it is a whole lengthy amount of information to take in.
