Live plants in hamster habitats

Does anybody have experience putting live plants in with their hams? I've seen some hamster habitats on Pinterest that have potted plants in them. I thought it would be nice to grow some wheatgrass or oats or some other kind of grass for my hams. Live, growing plants seem like something they would appreciate, and I imagine cereal grasses would be perfect. Also, many of the products targeted toward cats come with organic soil that is safe for pets.

Any ideas, anyone?

This gets discussed quite a lot, probably because it does seem like a nice idea but in practise it just doesn't work.
You would have to be very careful that anything you grew plants in (compost or whatever) had no fertilisers that could be harmful.
Condensation build up is a problem & damp leads to mould which is really bad for hams.
Even if you could make it work they would probably just dig in the pot so the plants wouldn't last two minutes!
Plants need lots of light to thrive & that's not something you want for hams.

The best thing is to grow things they can eat on a windowsill or somewhere bright then put them in the cage for short periods when you can watch what they do & monitor how much if any they eat.
