He gets so bored!!

As I go to bed at 9:00pm, and he wakes up at about 8:00pm, Smudge only gets an hour of playtime, even less if I'm busy. When I put him back in his cage, he gets really bored and bar bites, monkey bars, bites his water bottle (which was really noisy and I couldn't sleep so now, before bed, I have to take his water bottle away and leave him with a water bowl, which he doesn't like, but it's unfortunately necessary. In the morning, I change the water bowl's water and put the water bottle)and runs around like a nutter.

Are there any ideas about what I could put in his cage to keep him entertained through the night? Thank you!

Hi can you post some pics of your current set up? If not give us a detailed description. What cage is it and what is in there now?

He sounds like an active little ham - Charlie is lazy and reclusive and I have to prize him out for playtime lol! As Thin Lizzy says, if you post a pic of your set up we might be able to give some suggestions. On the other hand, if he is just a real chewer and bar biter he might be better off in a tank style cage.

My hammie Franklin started bar chewing after a few months with me, so I ended up changing his cage layout quite a bit, and swapping the toys around with my other hamsters, so they all got something new, which really helped. He never does it anymore! I think he just got bored with everything being the same.

But a picture of your set up could help us help you a bit more

He has 2 bendy bridges, a cleaned stone, a cardboard toilet tube, a hammock, a climbing frame, 2 climbing things (that hang from the cage), a toilet (which he doesnt use so i have now set it up as a burrowing area, a chew toy willow ball, scatter feed, a water bottle, a platform, his food bowl, his water bowl, his hoard, a house, 3 chew toy carrots, a chew toy orange block, a treat cracker and his AMAZING nest (if I had a nest like that I wouldnt mind being a ham!!!) under his platform. So he's not exactly STRIPPED for toys, he's just rather reluctant to use them! Btw how on earth could Smudge hve made his nest on his own! It's a work of art!!!!

Sorry, i forgot, he also has a supposedly silent wheel that rattles ALL THE TIME!!!!
