Pet safe wooden varnish

What varnishes are safe for pets, it wont be chewed, but needs to make the wood so that pee wont be absorbed

Plastikote is about the only thing I know of that's safe, you can get clear or coloured, paint on or spray on.
Just make sure you get the water based not oil based one though.

If pee might be absorbed then the varnish would have to be applied inside the housing surely? Plastikote is child safe. I would be very careful with anything else due to the fumes and toxicity. x
