Default Our bin cages

Thought I would put up some pictures of the bin cages we done, the dwarf set ups are pretty much done now. We're just waiting on Yummy's sputnik to arrive now, which should be today or next thursday Oo

The white tape stuff seen on the platforms is what I've seen used in DIY hamster cage videos, it keeps the rough sides away from hamster feet. The black stuff that might be seen is aquarium sealant, I used this to fill in the holes. I should have got clear sealant but the shop didn't have any left.

Since Lunar is the laziest of the three he is on the bottom, he often comes out to explore when we're in bed. I have to get him up very late evening with the others for his ball time, he has decided to start sleeping in his ball so now he just climbs on the both of us for playtime. Once in his cage he goes right back to bed. There is a chew toy at the back but he has never been interested in it, the ropes are a little bit chewed on but that's it. Lunar has Yummy's old wheel (It was disinfected with cage safe disinfectant, no lavender or orange scent its scent free) His back was arching a little in his wheel, so this one is a better size for him I don't think he agrees.

This is Cindy's. With the added wooden house and platform she has been out to explore more during the evening, she often likes to sit under the platform now to groom. She has Lunar's old wheel which she loves and its good for her since she is so small, she was just a bit too big for the small silent spinner she had. Cindy runs on this wheel just as much as her old one which is now in storage. She also has the same chew toy but like Lunar has paid it little attention.

This one is Yummy's and she gets to sit on top as she demands more attention, we have to get her out more to accommodate her needs. We also keep clips on the lid as she likes to escape, she knows if she climbs up she can push the lid off to escape. Her platform is smaller as we didn't have any other wood that would be wide enough for her to sit on comfortably, I use it to put her food bowls on and it works well for this. Anything we've put in for her to hide in has been destroyed, be it cereal boxes, egg boxes or her new bendy bridge she is doing her best to gnaw to death. Her new Trixie wheel is huge, and I will be removing that once she is awake and has used it as per advice on the forum. Yummy also had the same chew toy as the dwarves but hers is destroyed, she chewed the ropes that held them together and hides the balls in her nest. She also drags her toothbrush chew to the nest too.

Here they all stacked on top of each other, they all have sand baths too. Yummy doesn't have hers right now due to stitches, and I'm worried the grains will irritate the wound. Lunar and Cindy both love their sand baths, I see Cindy rolling in hers more often than Lunar does in his.

Those look really nice Blue. Must be nice being able to see your hamsters through the mesh on the frontages?! I must say though I`m not a huge fan of those Ferplast dropper water bottles. I prefer the Classic bottles, those would hang on the front of your wire easy if you ever wanted to switch. If they work for the hamsters though that`s all that matters. x

Well done on all your hard work, BRD, the bin cages look really good. I'm glad that each fluff has settled in, albeit in their own ways, nudge nudge Lunar.

I'm sure Yummy will enjoy her sand bath and wheel once she has fully recovered from her recent surgery.

RH those water bottles work fine for them and they're used to them, if I tried using a water bottle that hung on the front the little ones wouldn't be able to reach xD Cindy herself only just about manages to peek her head at the bottom of the mesh. It is good to watch them through the mesh or the sides.

AUK most of the work was done by my partner, at least he did all the cutting, screwing and I just did gluing, filling and painting. Yummy will enjoy her wheel and sand when she is all done recovering. ^^

I love them! A lot of thought and effort has gone into them.
Your hams are very lucky!

All thanks to this forum and people saying their cages were too small, though at the time I thought they were big enough. Here is a video of them playing with a DIY toy filled with food.

They look good! What kind of tape is it you used on the shelves? Also, is that the Ferplast wood house in the top cage? I was looking at the guinea pig sized one and wondering if they have lift off roofs?

Melanine tape you need to iron it on. I think Cindy's house is a rosewood and its all one thing the roof isn't removable, the one Lunar has comes apart but slots together pretty easily

What cute and funny hams you have! I must try that with mine! What did you put in them?

I put in some hamster mix which is what I use to scatter feed at times, their normal food is science selective. I also put in some freeze dried meal worms. They then spend ages trying to get the food out xD
