Default Connecting two bar cages

I'm wanting to connect two bar cages. I was thinking about cutting a hole in the side of the base of each cage and putting a tube through to connect them.

Has anyone connected bar cages before?
Just looking for some advice on the best way to do it

Thanks guys

I think that would be the best way as cutting the bars makes it more complicated

I think some people have put one on top of each other with the top one upside down, and left the top opening doors off, so it is open from the bottom cage to the top cage. Obviously you would need ladders/hammocks so they could get to the top and not fall to far, or a tall house with a ladder and a hammock or something. Depends if the cages have top opening doors I guess. I wouldn't fancy cutting bars, but some people are good at diy and you are maybe one of them! I have thought about this too, but think I would rather sell current cage and just get a bigger one.

Do you know the best thing to use to seal the gap around the tube?
And what I could use to hold the tubes in place?

We buy ferplast connector plates and cut the bars, its always seemed far easier than cutting holes in bases and then the holes are blockable so the cages can be used singly again if needed.

POLAR WHITES is right, cutting the bars does make it complicated- but if you're willing to go through those trials, what you can do in theory is use squares of acrylic sheeting to make a sandwhich of the bars. Screw into place with a few flat bottomed screws, make sure there's a hamster sized hole through all three layers, and you have connecting plates for your tubes.

Just to be clear what I mean... Yes you need to cut bars for these but most cage bars are easily cut and as long as you're careful where to cut you should be ok - we find using them pretty easy.
Ferplast ones Ferplast Fpi Hamster Cage Expansion End Cap: Amazon.co.uk: Pet Supplies
I think these're the right ones from savic too (and savic and ferplast tubes are completely interchangeable) Savic Square Connection Ring Spelos/ Metro: Amazon.co.uk: Pet Supplies

The advantages to those are that you can block them off to use the cages separately with ease and the tubes are held securely in place because once those're on cages they're exactly the same as cages like the hamster heaven that arrive with places to attatch tubes. (Plus I find attatching those way easier than I've ever found making holes in plastic.) When using them make sure you remember to leave the bars to clip them to, you need to mark where to cut on both sides of every bar between those two though and then just cut them, nice and simple

For the record we use the wire cutting bit on our pliers to cut bars - the pliers themselves were fairly cheap when we got them and they definetly do the job with all standard hamster cages. Its just a case of mark where on the bar you want to cut, put the wire cutter bit of the pliers on that mark, close the pliers (job done!) then repeat as many times as needed to remove the number of bars you need removed. Its much easier than most seem to think cutting bars would be (And we've done this with a lot of cages now and have never had a problem, its not even much effort to close the pliers on the bars of normal hamster cages.)

I've got 2 bar cages connected. Side by side, connected with quick click tubes. Fitted to each side door on the cages.
You just need to take the tubes away and cages are not damaged.
