Pet safe clay ?
I'd like to make a hideout ...
I found this clay... it says it's child safe, and is made from natural, non-toxic, biodegradable ingredients.... and that it carries the Art & Craft Materials Institute AP non-toxic label.
After it air dries; it becomes very hard; not spongy. It can be painted or colored with tempera; acrylics or markers making it ideal for kids crafts or classroom projects....
sound safe ?

I read on a thread here about teracotta clay being okay... this link says it paper based... but I saw no other info... is it non toxic ? etc...

Re: Pet safe clay ?
I can't see any reason why it wouldn't be safe enough for a hideout unless there was any serious chewing going on in which case I'd remove it.
I do wonder what happens when this kind of stuff gets wet from water spills or pee so it would probably be best to plastikote it or paint with some other non toxic paint.
Also if you make a hideout be sure to allow plenty of ventilation.

Re: Pet safe clay ?
Seems like Terra cotta is definitely the way to go... people use terra cotta pots and things all the time in my research.
I don't think Terra cotta would ruin if wet....

Re: Pet safe clay ?
I think terra cotta pots would be better to use, as they don't ruin if wet and a hamster would find them hard to break by chewing

Re: Pet safe clay ?
I was a bit confused by the terra cotta one tbh, it says paper based air dry clay which isn't terracotta as in the normal clay used for flower pots & stuff so I wonder if it's the same stuff but with colour, or am I just plain confused?!
