Sterilite Bin - Stacking and Durability
Right now SO and I are using IKEA bins - a bit harder to get, and there's no "in the middle" from a bigger bin, to a medium size bin (everything smaller than the 130L is under minimum).
I've found some sterilite bins that I like in the "ClearView Latch" section. However, we're wondering how durable these are. We would be cutting out four squares on each side, and possibly stacking 1-2 more bins on top of it. So there would be some weight. Right now we can do this easily with the SAMLAs as they're sturdy. Wondering if the sterilites could withstand this?
Thanks!

Re: Sterilite Bin - Stacking and Durability
You know, I was wondering the same thing. They are the only bin I can get that's potentially suitable (our Ikea isn't close and doesn't stock the large Samla anyway) but I've checked them out a few times and they're really flimsy. If I were to use them I would have to attach some kind of support bar across the top, maybe a dowel screwed in at both sides, to keep it from bowing out.

Re: Sterilite Bin - Stacking and Durability
I haven't seen them in person, but hearing that... I think they're out. I don't want to wake up in the morning and find out that a ham has been crushed from a bin on top. =/

Re: Sterilite Bin - Stacking and Durability
I used one to make a bin cage for my sister recently, and have one that I use as a playpen. They're certainly not as strong as a Samla. As BrainGirl said, there are ways you could make them strong enough, but stacking without reinforcement probably isn't worth the risk. Unstacked, they're fine.

Re: Sterilite Bin - Stacking and Durability
Thanks all. We decided to go with some Really Useful Boxes instead. We'll see how that goes!
