Question DIY Platforms???

HI!

I was wondering if anyone has any really good tutorials for making homemade platforms for wire cages, to add "levels" to the cage

thanks to any responses!

I don't know of any tutorials but then I've never found it difficult enough to need a tutorial. My favourite way to make them is to buy B&Q value pine shelving, plastikote it (or use another equally suitable paint), then screw it onto the cage with a normal screw and a washer outside the bars. Works really easily for us and we saw the shelves to the right length before painting if they're too long

I did the same as Kyrillion for Molly and Pippin's cages and it worked a treat.

The Plastikote stops it from getting messed up by hamster pee/water/wet treats and so on, so it's a good idea. I mention that because this is the most expensive part of the process, but adds longevity to the work and is easier to clean.

I made this one out of material for temporary, found the tutorial here: Simple and Easy Ways to Accessorize a Rat Cage although I doubled the material.

Can someone tell me what PlastiKote is? Will it make a hard varnish on the wood or can the hamster chew it off (my hammy is a really big chewer

Will PlastiKote also work on cardboard???

I took the horrible plastic platforn out of the Savic cage I have as it has a hump in the centre of it and replaced it with a piece of plywood. Now I can place my own food tubs on there.

The ham can chew plastikote but it won't hurt them when they do. It protects the wood until/unless the ham chews it off lol
