Default DIY toys!

So ever since we brought our cupcake home, me and my kids have gone crazy with popsicle sticks!! We have been making toys for her to play with and I've been asked to do a tutorial on how to make them so here it is.
I will apologize now as I still have not figured out how to attach more then one photo to a post. So each step will be in different posts. also these are in no way "perfect" but they make our hamster happy!

So the first project is a swing. I am making a smaller version then the one in the picture.

You will need: jumbo popsicle sticks, regular popsicle sticks, a wooden dowel, string, and non-toxic glue.

Step one: I laid out as many popsicle sticks as I wanted. This will be your swing platform.

Next, take another popsicle stick and run glue all the way across it. Then glue it to all the sticks that are laid out. Do this to either side like shown.

Next, take your jumbo popsicle sticks and creat a triangle. Glue all three corners and do this step twice. This will be the frame.

Next, take another jumbo popsicle stick and have it go across to connect your two triangle pieces. Do one for either side and glue.

Next, you will need to take your wooden dowel and just hold it where you will be gluing it but don't glue it yet! You will probably need two people for this part. Take your string and run it over the dowel and measure out how high you want your platform to be. Cut two pieces of string just a little more then what you need as some will get glued to the underside of the platform.

After you have cut two pieces of sting, take the ends of one side and lay them on the popsicle stick. Next, break a popsicle stick in half and glue the whole side of it and place it ontop of the sting. Do this to the other side too.

After that take your dowel and put it through the string and now glue each dowel end to the frame.

Position your platform so it is sitting evenly and glue the string directly onto the dowel. This is so your platform always stays put and just swings back and forth.

I added some jumbo popsicle sticks to the top for added support and also makes it look nicer.

Hope you and your hammies enjoy!!
