DIY play pen help needed!
I'm hopefully getting a syrian hamster in a few weeks and I'm planning to make a bin cage for it myself. I figured that I'm going to have a lot of mesh left over from it and thought it would be a good idea to make a play pen out of the left over so that I can have the hamster out of the cage without it running under furniture and disappearing.
What is the best way of doing this and is using mesh a good or bad idea? I worry that the hamster would be able to climb out but obviously I'd be keeping an eye on it while it was in the play pen!
Any other relatively cheap and easy methods for making a play pen would be appreciated too!

Re: DIY play pen help needed!
I'm not sure how you could use mesh to make a playpen, I would have though it is too malleable to maintain an ideal structure without buying other materials, I'm not very creative though, not sure if anyone else has any input as to how it could work
There are loads of other options though, including: cardboard, correx, your bath, childrens sand pits ect! I'll list a few below, but here's the link for the full list of threads Hamster Central - Search Results

Could any of you recommend a good hamster playpen for Boo?

Well I was thinking of making a wooden frame and somehow attaching the mesh to it. But I don't think it's going to be very hamster-proof!!
Thank you for the links

Re: DIY play pen help needed!
If you go to the DIY forum and go to my easy peasy diy play pen by Strawberry's Mom you'll find a really easy playpen to make. Mesh isn't a good idea because hammy can climb up the mesh. hope this helps.

Re: DIY play pen help needed!
I did think hammy might be able to climb the mesh and escape!
Was hoping to find something useful to do with the rest of my mesh!

Do you have loads of mesh? You could get a puppy pen and mesh it. It might be a pain to mesh though but it'll make a large playpen

I think that a fabric one would be quite good

You never know, you might get the hmster bug and absolutely NEED another bin cage. You never know when a pitter patter of tiny fkuff ball will catch your eye

Re: DIY play pen help needed!
I'm not sure how much mesh I'll have left after making the cage but its a pretty large roll! I'm going to see what I can find to make a play pen
I am worried that once I get one hamster, I'll want more! But I don't think I have the space for more than one right now!

Re: DIY play pen help needed!
You will definitely want more lol and as for space, it can always be found.
We started with 2 in 1 cage.
Currently owned by 5 lovely hams and an empty cage.... ( dont want to sell it, waiting for the cardiff meet as you never know.....)
