Default Rope?

I've had a quick look to see about making some rope toys. I know sisal is ok to use.
Are they any other safe ropes to use?

Hemp and twine are good as well. As long as there are no artificial colours and it's all natural. What type of toys are you looking to make. I made a chew toy some time ago and put it on here: Friendship bracelet chew toy

I must've missed your thread!
I plan on doing something with wooden bits.
I've got rabbits aswell, so ordered some seagrass to try and attempt tunnels. Not sure how I'm going to do it yet

That sounds really interesting. I looked on the internet at some possibilities. Haven't tried it so it's just an idea but I thought you could macrame around a bottle then pull the bottle out at the end to make a tunnel.

A bit like this: Home-Dzine - Make netted bottles and jars
But you'd need more threads than the ones in the photo and the knots would need to be closer.

The other possibility is to weave a basket, like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33VOciOvuf8
You'd need wood sticks to make the spokes though.

This is really helpful,
Gizmo loves climbing and I really wanted to get him a cargo net but the ones I found were too big for miniture hammys. I really wanted to know what twine was safe to use to make him one.
Thanks for the post

Thanks for that, I'll have a look

I tend to go for natural twine or hemp like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Natural-Hemp...=natural+twine

I think you'd have to be a bit careful with making small knots because their small feet can get stuck in them and they can get hurt. But something like this should be doable (probably a bit more square): Climbing Wall Rope for Birds Budgies or Small Animals Hamster Mouse Mice Cage | eBay

If you wanted to use something thicker, DIY stores sell sash cord for replacing in sash windows.

It's made of jute which is completely natural.

I've used it in the past to hang tubes in cages
