Question Remodelling a display cabinet

I'm trying to find the best way to line/paint/varnish the inside of a veneered cabinet which I'm hoping too turn into a hammy home. ANY help on this would be really appreciated

There are a couple of threads here where people have done cabinet conversions that might help?
New custom cage set ups.

These are like others I've seen and haven't been lined with anything. There are some small holes (for shelf adjustment) which I need to fill to stop little teeth attacking them but then want to cover the filled holes so the filler isn't eaten :O
