Default Would this work?

My dream cage is something that looks good in a room and doesn't create "dead space". Luna's cage is currently on a desk thats quite a bit bigger than her cage. I use the space behind it for books and underneath I have a few stacker boxes with Luna's stuff in it. It doesn't look very good but I don't have anywhere else to put her cage.

When my OH and I move we will be buying a lot of bookcases as both of us are bookworms and our book collections are currently dotted all around the flat as all we have is one tiny bookcase that I bought when I was living with my mum.

So, I need bookcases and want a cage that looks good and "fits" into a room if you know what I mean. The Expedit seems like a great way to do both.

I've whipped up a quick picture of what I'm thinking of doing in Photoshop, using the Expedit pics from the Ikea website. It's basically three 2x4 units, the middle one on it's side. The cage would be in the space in the middle, the sideways unit making up the base, the two end ones making up the sides and a glass panel attached to the front and another on the back. They would be tall enough to not need a lid and still accomodate a deep layer of subsrate. I could always add a lid if I needed too as well.

Here's a the picture, the proportions look a bit odd but I couldn't find a picture of one already made up.

What do you reckon? Would it work? How do you think I could go about fitting the glass panels to the front and back? Is the depth of it OK for a Syrian? It will be less than 39cm as that doesn't take into account the glass panels.

I think it would as long as you can give them the minimum space requirements, so even if you are a little under in depth having more in length would give the required floor space area.
Although i am no expert, its juts my opinion.

That looks as it it would work to me.
At such a depth how would you propose to clean it SS? Would you have the front glass panel sliding out? Glass this size would be quite heavy. Maybe clear perspex on the back so you could put a ventilation section in? The space size seems fine to me as there is plenty length there.

It looks like there would be a tiny gap in the middle, or is that just my eyes deceiving me? So if there was, you'd need to put perspex on the bottom too. I'd personally make a 'tray' of perspex, so the bedding couldn't fall out when you opened it [if you are planning to have sliding doors], at least 30cm high. So maybe that would take away a couple of centimetres from the depth. Are you planning to make this a vivarium, or more like a tank? You could just put plywood on the back, it'd save you a bit of money rather than having perspex. Or are you planning to have this case in a position where one side is not pressed against a wall? Then you might as well put perspex on both sides for better visibility. I'd still have a lid, just in case...
