They are quite heavy so I would deffinatly put the extra support in because I worry. But the glue is pretty hard so I don't think it is completely necessary

Mine never have chewed the lolly sticks. My robos aren't real chewers. I give them quite a lot of sunflower seeds to break open though.

We actually screwed our shelves in. Works brilliantly and are completely secure for our syrian but can be a nightmare to reattatch (for me anyway - my partner finds it easy somehow)
