After much planning and such, I have made Sandy a digging box extension!
Here's a photo of the finished extension in all its glory:
It's a meshed IKEA samla box filled with carefresh.
It was meant to have the lid that came with the box, but when I was cutting it with a heated stanley knife it cracked! And I didn't have the patience to go all the way to IKEA to get another one, so I just drilled some holes around the sides and fixed the mesh to the top with nuts, bolts and washers. It's not very convenient in terms of opening the lid (I'll have to screw out 10 bolts to do that), but at least it offers good ventilation.
This it what it looks like from the side:
Here you can see the tube going down through the mesh. I know it doesn't look like it's securely fixed, but nelieve it or not, If I move the box and tube away from the cage the tube stays in the same position as on the photo, straight up in the air! And that's only being supported by the mesh (it's tightly fitted).
I owe Hanlou a big thanks for this tread:
How to connect cages with tubes Which I followed religiously when I made the tube connection.
And lastly here's some photo's of Sandy enjoying her digging box!! When I put her back in her cage she went straight down the tube and after sniffing around for a bit she started digging. She absolutely loved it! The burrows seems to hold quite well in the carefresh, which is nice.
I hope you've enjoyed seeing my little creation!
I probably would never have made it without the insperation I get from Hamster Central so a big thanks to all of you!
