Default Playpen "Flooring" & Toys?

Hi! I got a playpen for Shadow today. it's by living world (http://c1.wag.com/images/products/p/hag/hag-755_1z.jpg)
& it was really expensive too :$ (30$ CAD)

Anyways, I was wondering, what can I use to put under it so any chinchilla sand or pee wont go on the carpet/hardwood floor. I can only think of one thing to use and it would be this tarp but its huge if you unfold it (10x12 ft)

Also, I was wondering what homemade toys I could put in it? I have a hot glue gun, popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners, toilet rolls, plastic containers ect.

Thanks!

Hi!

An option would maybe be to put cardboard or maybe newspaper under it? Maybe is your willing to sacrifice a small fellece blanket? Also, it its sunny, im sure Shadow would love to have an outdoor play!

As for toys, I always make little houses with popsicle sticks and glue, or make a little climbing wall? Toilet paper rolls are an awesome toy, also egg cartons filled with tissue paper/shavings with treats are a good boredom breakers!

Hope I helped!

I had one of these for my first hamster, Humphrey, and he worked out how to escape in about 3 minutes! He could shimmy up the bars, and I was forever scooping him back in, so make sure you watch Shadow all the time, just in case! I used to use a plastic picnic tablecloth for the floor, as it was wipe-clean vinyl, and not too big. I have also used a folded bedsheet as a floor covering; this can be fun to make lumpy "mountains" for exploring, but obviously would need proper washing rather than a wipe over.

I bought a large plastic mat to put under Toffee's playpen. One of the really long ones that's normally used in a hallway.

Me and my twin sis once made an oatmeal carton into a tunnel. Also in my experience a treat, covered in shredded paper covered stuck together by a rubber band can be fun, but make sure the rubber band isn't harmful.

I used to use a playpen like this but when all the hamsters I had figured out how to escape I got rid of it!

I just used to put a large towel underneath. When playtime was over I just gave it a shake outside.

This is Dinah's playpen. The paddling pool idea was suggested by Emma
It's all wipe-down so perfect even when she wees.
