Connecting tanks?!

In a diff. thread in housing I found out that ten-g tanks is not large enough for a hammy (BOO.) so instead of buying a new tank I would like to connect two tanks, one is plastic and the other is glass. any tips on how to get the tanks connected would be appreciated this tank used to be for my hermit crabs but they outgrew it, now they have a snazzy 29gallon THING. one of the tanks has a screen lid (Ten gallon) and the other, a metal mesh top, I guess you could call it a screen but the metal is really thick and hard. note that my budget cannot be 60 or more(might as well just get a 20 gallon tank, it would cost less) The glass tank screen is slide on and the plastic tank is liftable. if it is to extravagant I may not be able to do it cuz my parents would freak.

I buy lids for.ten gallon aquariums at Walmart that are plastic with mesh down the center and places to put tubes through on either end. They're perfect for attaching two aquariums or one aquarium and a different type of cage. They are pretty cheap too. I will try to post a pic tomorrow for you.
