Default Home made cage

I'm planning to make a home made cage but I have some questions about what a hamster would prefer. I'm planning to put a pair of dwarfs in this and I'm trying to work out the dimensions. My old hamster, Jenga, was a Syrian and she LOVED to climb. I had her in a Duna Multy and I had lots of ladders and bridges that would suspend from the ceiling or go up the sides. I'm not sure if this behaviour is learnt from the environment she was in or whether she "naturally" liked to climb. I am considering of having a level in the cage that isn't too wide but is tall so I can suspend things from it. Is this ideal for a dwarf?

Dwarfs aren't natural climbers, but seeing Squishy monkey bar across the roof proves otherwise
Mine enjoy hammocks and the like so having something to suspend it from would be a good idea.

I'd plan to be able to hang things.
Its easier to take hanging things out later than to find a way of putting them in if you haven't planned for it in a home-made cage.
