Default Hamster display case

I buy my hamsters from Petsmart, and i like the display cases they keep the hamsters in.

I am thinking of making this kinda of display case, and had couple questions.

1. Would this work well as a home for hamster, instead of storebought cage?
2. WHat would be a good material instead of wood, so its easy to carry and not heavy.
3. SIze/dimensions

Thanks Faze

hmm maybe something with an aluminum frame and plexi glass? or even hardware cloth if you want plenty of air flow...

I really don't recommend doing something exactly like it though, unless you have the money to spend, petco and petsmart's cages have an air flow system that pushes air through the cages.

It would be very expensive to make one with each cage being a reasonable size for permenant residence. The size will depend on whether your keeping dwarfs or syrians and how many cages you want. 55cm x 40cm approxitmately is the min size I would say suitable for a single dwarf. I wouldn't go any smaller than 70 x 40 for syrians.
I know in the UK you can buy them or get them made for ridiculous prices.

Wood would be the best material to use really, if you use plexiglass instead of glass it should make it much lighter. It could work well if you made sure the ventelation was a bit better than most store display cages.
