Re: Meet Fidget!
She's starting to get comfortable with taking treats from my palm. Wont let me pick her up yet tho, but its progress!
I can hear her squeak in the morning before she goes to sleep for the day. Doesnt sound like a stressed squeak, more content sounding.

Re: Meet Fidget!
Make a diy bin cage. Lots of videos on Youtube. They sell for less than 20$ at Walmart. It has to be at least 4000 square cm.
This cage is way too small, and the tunnels are not ideal for a hamster. Even if all pet stores sell them...

That would be great, but I want a wired cage to allow air circulation. I would have to cut off most of the sides and top and replace with mesh in order to get the circulation I'm looking for. I feel that with a bin or aquarium, ammonia can build up to easily. If it works for your style, great, but it's not what I'm going for. I have the super habitat in the process of getting set up. Its huge!
Anything bigger than the super habitat and I'd have to put her on the floor, and in my apartment I dont have the room for that where she wont be right next to a baseboard heater or drafty windows.

You can see the size differences here. Once they're connected together it will be plenty of room.
In this one, you can see I'm missing that back grate. I'm waiting to hear back from Kaytee about replacing that piece. Then I can set it up and swap out that ramp with a wooden one.

Re: Meet Fidget!
That's a fab cage, annoying about the missing panel and having to wait for it. Bet you can't wait to set it all up. So, your hamster will have a large cage to live in and a small one as a play ground. Don't count on it though, hamsters have their own peculiar ideas that don't always make sense to us humans.
I'm really looking forward to find out what your hamster is going to do with all the space available to her.

Me too! I'll have to make sure to have the camera ready! I'm collecting toys to put in there while I wait for the piece.

Does the cage come with a decent wheel or do you have to get one?

I have a wheel that came with the starter habitat, not sure if I should get a second one tho. Maybe a saucer.

I'd definitely put an upright wheel in the big cage, in the correct size. I think a decent wheel and house are very important to a hamster. Saying that, my dwarves use their houses as porches to disappear and sleep down a burrow.
Not all hamsters use saucers, my dwarf doesn't, he only likes the upright one. I'd put the saucer in the small cage but that's only my opinion

Ok cool, I'll try that. Thanks! She had a saucer at the pet store that she used. But maybe now that she uses the upright she has a new favorite. She loves using the upright.
