New Chinese Mum
Today we brought home our first Chinese hamster who we have named Yui. We usually have Syrians but fell in love with yui at our local pet shop. We were told he was well handled and seemed perfectly happy to sit in our hands in the shop. So we got home and placed him in his cage with his bedding from his cage in the shop. But he didn’t move from the spot we put him in. He seemed terrified and froze to the spot. So we left the room dark and quiet. 5 hours later I checked on him and he was fast asleep but in the same spot. It’s now been 10 hours and he still hasn’t moved. I was expecting him to explore a little and then build a nest like our past hamsters have. Do I just go to bed and leave him and hopefully he’ll explore and get settled over night?
