Hi, this is a re-introduction I recently purchased a pair of female Chinese hamsters. I know that it is not recommended to keep Chinese in pairs (especially females) but I let the store manager talk me into it They are about 4-5 mo old now and have been together since birth.
There names are Mylie and Kylie. Mylie as a short stubby tail from a possible birth mark. Kylie is much quieter and reserved than Mylie who is very outgoing. I'm hoping there different personalities will complement each other.
So I'm debating on whether to leave them in the 10 gal that they are in currently or upgrade them to the 15 gal. In the 15 gal there is more space to be territorial over but on the positive side there would be more room for toys for an enriched lives, especially as they grow. This upgrade will be in less than 2 weeks from now.
Mylie drinks a ton of water as I can hear it in my bedroom. It wakes me up a little when I'm sleeping. They live in my bedroom in case there is ever a fight in the night. So it's a little bit of a stressful situation as they can be diabetes prone as well, but I'm hoping their relationship will be unusual and that they will live happy & healthy together
This pic is from the pet store and you can see their tails in this pic

Thank you Drago & BP, I hope all goes well too. They are making progress everyday, sleeping together and squeaking together, cute
This morning Kylie came out and explored the back of my hand and really sniffed me. Hoping she wouldn't bite and she didn't. I fed both of them sunflower seeds and then Mylie came out to run on the wheel.
I thought that Mylie was the more dominant one and I was afraid of if stunting Kylie's behavior, thought she might retreat. But that isn't the case. They are both active and happy. So far so good

Re: Chinesesy Sisters
It does sound as though they are getting quite brave already

I gave them bigger Silent Spinners medium size, 2 of them, side by side
Now I can put more bedding in there next time, as the wheels are higher than the mini size ones
(They spin without resistance, I had them amongst my hamster stuff)
I might not do the cage upgrade, right now I'm thinking not but I'll keep the 15 gal anyways
It's too risky of ruining a good thing vs fighting over territory if they had a bigger cage.
They are happy but if they grow a lot more then I'll try the bigger cage with observation
The girls must not like me lifting their houses up, so now the sleep underneath the bedding under one of the houses together.
The hammies don't like me picking up their houses. So they sleep together beneath the bedding. Guess I'll have to wait till their awake to interact with them. They are soooo cute!

Re: Chinesesy Sisters
I'm glad that things are going ok with your little girls. I think that having two females chineses it's too risky, and after reading vectis' post I don't think I could handle it, but I hope you the best!!

Re: Chinesesy Sisters
Most hams don't much like us picking up their houses or taking the roof off tbh, understandable really! It's totally normal for Chineseys to burrow down in the substrate rather than just sleep on top of it or in a little nest inside the house, I find with mine if they can't get out of the house underneath they will just chew their way out!
If you can it's probably best to just interact with them or check on them when they're out & about in the cage unless you hear noises that could indicate a problem coming from inside the house.

Re: Chinesesy Sisters
They are lovely together. I respect Vectis post, however I really believe these 2 will be unique & spend their lives together.
I got up at 5:00am & one hammy was sitting on top of her house & the other one was running on the wheel. Mylie was sitting on top of her house, cute
When I approached with seeds they ran on the wheel again then darted into their nest. Tried to put sunflower seeds in front of the door but, no go
So I just dropped the seeds in from of the house. When I woke up later the seeds were gone of course. I don't know how I'm going to tame them at this rate?
I'm not going to transport via tube to a bim cage & scare them to death for taming at this point. It will be necessary for cage cleanings. I might put them in the carrier together to keep the stress down
