Re: Zylvan, another new man in my life!
Just look at him and how far he's come, god he's absolutely stunning, he makes me go all giddy! That little expressive adorable face has melted my heart.
Well done Cypher, you must be so very proud.
I so love him xx

Re: Zylvan, another new man in my life!
Thanks for the lovely comments everyone
He is doing well now, still doesn't really want to interact in the evenings (none of my boys do really so Zen gets me all to herself!) but he doesn't run off & hide & he's very happy to see me in the morning, running to the door for his treats, taking seeds from my hand properly now & very relaxed about it, climbing on to make sure he got every last one
He completely melted my heart this morning as he was struggling a bit to get it all in his pouches & sat there balanced with one little paw on my hand while he shunted all those seeds into place!
His quite a tiny man, about 41g grams compared to Zeki's 52g but Zeki has always been a big boy! Zylvan is almost the same weight as Zen but longer & slimmer than my slightly chubby girl!

Awww that sounds so so sweet, can just imagine him sitting there with one paw on your hand saying "got to maximise the space Mum". 41grams does sound tiny but I imagine he might still have some growing to do?

Sounds like his confidence is continuing to grow and lovely that he runs to his cage door for his treats - that is so sweet that he was balancing on your hand whilst trying to get the remaining seeds into his pouch. Zylvan does sound tiny weighing 41g - make Pumpkin seem really big!

Aww that sounds so cute! He's tiny but I'm sure that'll change over time.

Re: Zylvan, another new man in my life!
I have a couple hams who are so nocturnal that I don't see them hardly ever. It's frustrating because I can't enjoy them. But oh well.
I like you new avatar pic

Zylvan photos are lovely. I agree with BP, he looks like he has a human eyebrow, it's very funny, and it gives him a lot of character.
I'm glad he's enjoying his sprouts, his new house, and that he's becoming braver. I don't know what happens in the evenings, Blacky usually is more willingly to come out in the mornings. Step by step you're making it!! Soon he will be the bravest!!

He sounds just like my boys sometimes. They'll come out and see me if they're up but once they're up in their hammocks, that's pretty much where they stay unless I have food for them.

He's a similar weight to Matthew which is not a bad weight but I can imagine it seems small next to Zeki's impressive 52g.
It seems strange to think that there are Chineseys out there that are double the weight of my little Jessie (a teeny-tiny 26g).

Re: Zylvan, another new man in my life!
It's been such a long time since I updated my shy boys thread!
Not a lot to report mostly, we were doing fine until I cleaned his wheel for the first time (had to be done, it was gross!) then I didn't see him for a week except when I got really worried about him & took the top of his house, called him & was rewarded by the tip of a little pink nose coming out, grabbing a treat then disappearing again
I never knew a hamster could sleep quite so much! At least he's so quiet I guess that's what he's doing most of the time, he gets up just after 10 usually then is back in bed by 4:30am, he was coming out again about 6ish & happy for a bit of interaction then but since it's been getting light so early he rarely comes back out until night so I don't see that much of him.
He's quite cheeky in the evenings, if I offer him a piece of nut he can't resist but any other treat & he gets out of his wheel, sniffs my hand then goes back to his run, as soon as I put the treat down he hops out & nabs it!
In the mornings he's so different, he'll run to the door & sit in my hand eating seeds quite happily so I'm really not so sure if he's shy or just lazy!
He did put in a rare appearance earlier today when he popped out for a spot of lunch
Of course I didn't have the camera to hand but I gave him a nice big piece of walnut & he went into his tunnel for a nibble so I managed to grab a shot & a vid before he came out again for a few seeds then disappeared back underground.

Re: Zylvan, another new man in my life!
A lovely update on Zylvan - he looked like he was thoroughly enjoying his walnut. It's wonderful to hear that in the morning he will happily eat seeds from your hand! I always love to see their pink noses emerging from their bedding - it's so cute!
