Re: Considering a Chinese hamster?
Thank you all for the advice! I'm trying to find a breeder or someone other than a petshop but not having much luck. I know of a city about 2hrs away from us that has a few decent petshops, not the 'usuals' like petco or petsmart. There are a few there that actually care about their animals and take good care of them, I think I will make a trip there soon and see what I can find.

Re: Considering a Chinese hamster?
If you can't find a breeder, try to find a local pet store.I'm actually in a situation where local animal shelters here are just not worth supporting(lots of terrible things that I am not okay with personally)and then I also don't want to buy a hamster from a chain pet store unless it were an absolute last resort. It took me some time to decide if it was worth it,but I ended up settling with a somewhat local pet store that is at least better than chain pet stores. There are still some little details I'm not too happy about with the local pet store, but it's still much better than a chain pet store.

Re: Considering a Chinese hamster?
We don't have any pet stores where we are. We are small town-country people, haha. We have 2 feed stores in our area, and if we travel a little bit we can get to a Family Farm & Home and a Tractor Supply Co. I'm planning a trip to see a relative and they live in a big city where there are tons of pet stores all around. I'm going to check out a bunch of them and hopefully won't have to settle for a chain pet store.
