Re: Everything Zen
She really is a little character lol! I never quite know what to expect next with her
I'm sure she'll gain in confidence too, I have to keep reminding myself she's only been here less that a week, tiny ham with a big presence!
lol! Lewis Zen says "Oooh thank you handsome, I've never had one of those!"
I'm sure the little Russian boy will arrive when the time is right velma, the gorgeous little guy I quite fell in love with on the spot was selling himself very well so I doubt he would wait long for a home, unlike Zen squashed in her cardboard tube with both ends stuffed with substrate so no one could see her, she didn't reckon on me coming along

Re: Everything Zen
Ooh she is so sweet Less than a week isn't long as you say - she's coming on really well. I like the sound of little paws in the hand (better than being batted away by a paw lol as Charlie does if he's in the mood).

Re: Everything Zen
Thanks Bec I'm not so sure the first taming box session went well at all tbh so I'm giving it a bit of a rest for now & she is becoming more confident in her cage again after a slight increase in skittishness after her session in the box.
It isn't long Serendipity but I really don't think she's one of those hams that just needs to be left, I'm giving her plenty of space & not overwhelming her & just taking interaction one day at a time, so far things seem to be working out...
Except...
She's still a digging crazy mad ham lol!
She managed to get under her wheel again last night, I have no idea how, she's one clever girl that's for sure.
I think it's time to give up on that idea though as I am worried she'll end up hurting herself eventually.
Two options really, one give her a silent spinner wheel which she would most likely still try to dig underneath, it's the lightest (& least favourite!) wheel I have but I still don't like the idea of it falling on her.
Option two is to try & set up the Alaska safely for her so she could have her wheel on a shelf, more space for crazy digging & some hammocks.
So the plan for today is to play around with the Alaska & see what set up I can come up with, if I can get it right, move her over & see how she reacts....
Watch this space...

Re: Everything Zen
Gosh Cypher! You always seem to sneak past me! In your last reply to my thread about Browney you wrote 'mine sleep underground' and I thought you referred to all of your previous hammies until I looked at your signature! My first thought was 'no, that cant be? Surely I must have made that up!' and then I found this thread!
What a gorgeous little girl! She really is stunning and there's something about her that I can't really point out, but she has this cheeky and yet calm appearance. Can't wait to see more of her! I'm excited about all of the amazing pictures you will take! I can only take non-blurry pictures of mine when they are sleeping and not moving haha

A ham has to keep herself busy
I know what you mean though, it can be a worry when they're digging under things that you'd really rather they didn't.
Hopefully you'll get the Alaska all set up soon and she settles in nicely.

Re: Everything Zen
Thanks Penguin, she was so unexpected I think she's the one who's sneaking up on us all, me included lol!
She does have the most endearing air about her, a mix of timidity, moments of bravery & sheer determination!
Hopefully there'll be some good photos to come, I haven't wanted to scare her with too much flash just yet & she's usually on the move so they'd probably be a blur anyway
She certainly does like to keep busy Fluffagrams, especially the moment my back is turned, she likes to keep me busy too
I'm getting there with the Alaska, it takes me hours to get everything right but with luck she might be in there sometime tomorrow, I'm having to guess where all her current stuff will go which doesn't help but I want to get it right first time (I hope!) & make the transition as quick & easy for her as possible so I'm not going to rush it. I think she'll enjoy it & she'll have loads of digging space so she might not have time to be bothered by the change.
She should be ok for now, there isn't much substrate left under her wheel now so fingers crossed she won't do it again tonight!

Re: Everything Zen
So lovely to hear how well Zen's doing in such a short time, will you keep the layout the same in her new cage the Alaska?

Re: Everything Zen
Well the move is done!
She was very good in the night but this morning things really started to go a bit crazy when she started on the wheel corner again so I rapidly decided it was time.
I kept a few things in the same or similar places Lizzy, not as much as I would have liked to but it just wasn't possible, as it was I overestimated how much I could get in there & had to do a quick last minute rethink.
The move went well, I put her in her carrier rather than her play box so I could get on with things without worrying about what she might be up to & she seemed to cope with that ok.
She's had a good long explore, ran in her wheel for a bit then explored some more, everything seems to work for her so far, she wasn't too sure about the hammock although she was having fun checking out all the little ledges but she did venture into the hammock after a while.
I've moved the cage onto a higher shelf unit too which is working better, I was looming over her a bit when I approached her cage before which often startled her & she's better in that respect already, seems happy enough with me after all the upheaval too, so fingers crossed things will work out now although digging has just begun in earnest so who knows what will happen next
I'll try to get some decent photos later, here's a quick shot to give a rough idea, I've just been over there & the little yellow ceramic house has already disappeared under a mountain lol! I thing she may be busy redesigning things for most of the day now!

Re: Everything Zen
Lovely that Zen is in the Alaska now, I bet she'll enjoy it!
Lol I guessed she'd do some housekeeping for the first day, every time I clean Willow's cage she moves everything (apart from her wheel, that's too heavy for her!) to somewhere else
