If you do that's probably making him more stressed & nervous, you really only need to remove a little of the substrate at any one time, maybe a third every two to three weeks or even less if he uses the litter tray/sand bath to pee in, if you clean out his nest & or hoard it's best to put at least some of it back too.
If you do that you would save a lot on substrate & he would probably be a much more relaxed little man! If you could I'd give him some deeper substrate at least in one bin so he can have a really good burrow!
Oh no I full cage clean maybe 1 time a month

Rosewood sell some nice shrimp cookies I got them for Charlie for Christmas one year as a special treat. They have nice natural ingredients as well.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rosewood-Sh...Shrimp+cookies

I love Erin's Hamsters cage cleaning tips video - it helped me and our hamster a lot - he got very stressed by any change in his cage, but this method works for us So I now only do partial cleans.

Totally gonna check out the shrimp from rosewood! anyone have any ideas of how much protein survives dehydration? i wonder if buying shrimp from the market and dehydrating it for storage may be cheaper at all? out of curiosity actually.

Also erinsanimals is where i get most of my care taking tips

It could be cheaper that way!Not sure on the nutrition, though. As long as you're careful and use safe methods(freeze drying preferably,no chemicals like sulfur dioxide)it should be fine though.Plus, that way you should also be able to get an idea of where the shrimp come from and some other things which can be very good.Even if it costs more peace of mind doesn't always come free, but it is something to think about and either way would probably work fine!
