Chinese hamsters in pairs?
Hi Everyone,
We are possibly getting a pair of hamsters as a rescue, they are being advertised on a free ad site and I am rather worried about them. I have been told they are dwarfs which is ambiguous and the picture looks like a dom spot Chinese to me.
They are males and a year old, one is apparently missing an eye due to escaping from his cage for 3 days
I am hoping to get them if I can arrange it with the current owner.
I have never owned Chinese hams before and I've been frantically reading up on their care. I am reading a lot of conflicting info on keeping them in pairs. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
If I can get them I will need to move them to my cages, I have two Ikea Samla bins, a mini duna and a Hamster Heaven cage spare, so I can split them no problem but I'm not sure what is best for them.
Thanks

Re: Chinese hamsters in pairs?
It does seem to be more generally accepted now that Chinese are solitary although I think males are less territorial than females, the stress of moving to a new home may be enough to cause them to fall out too so it would probably be best to separate them.
If they are in a small cage then it may be best to stay small at least to begin with until they settle as too much space could stress them out but then see how they go.
I have one in an alaska & one in a hamster heaven, not too much open space, & they are fine with the size.
