Default SPCA Chinese hammie

Pet-Co has 2 Chinese female spayed 2yr old hammies that come with Critter cage, ball, hidey hut, etc.
Somebody is going to adopt (everything for $20), but I wouldn't be able to keep the hammie in the small cage when I know better.
I can't rescue every animal, right? The one had real big eyes and wasn't afraid of me. But I already have 4 hammies & I need to stay out of the pet stores! They also had a robo for adoption that somebody surrendered, poor thing

Tell me to go home!

Ooo I know just how you feel! The chocolate coloured syrian with white paws and chin has been in our local pet shop since before Christmas ... I often go and visit her, which is how I ended up with Arun.

If only I could have her but ... it would be too frustrating for my boys plus six set ups is a step too far!

Very hard to resist. Chinese with big eyes and a robo. BE STRONG! (Like I wasnt when I saw Arun).

I am trying to resist
I got SPCA approved & went back to hold hammies, but I really liked this young robo on the sales floor. At that point I knew I needed to leave the store

They weren't spayed btw! Manager was telling me they were spayed? I'll just stop looking so as to solve these temptations!

I don't know how people can just surrender their pets? Unless for a reason that is! But SPCA said the family had them in these small cages their entire lives & just didn't want them anymore

It's good Pet-Co is making people go next door to the mall to get approved by the SPCA, to see who is really serious about giving them a good home.

Getting SPCA approval does sound like a good thing. Perhaps UK pet shops could learn from that.

Well done for being strong.

I also got a job application from a manager as he was just leaving to apply for a part-time job? Will see? At the SPCA Not Pet-Co! Although that would be great too!

Chineseys are funny little things in that too much space doesn't always suit them even with the addition of hideouts. Of course you're not going to know what these two would be like until you'd have got them home but it's something I thought worth mentioning in case you were still thinking about it.

Chinese are pretty irresistable and I know from experience how hard it is to resist the temptation.

Good luck with your job application.

Think it's not wise to get one that is 2 yrs old already?

Somebody's going to leave them in that small cage anyways? Why not me?

I have 4 already! Hard decision, I'd only get one out of the two since they live seperate.

I probably won't get one though!

If I were to get one of the two Chinese hammies, I have a choice between one who isn't as active but rests in my hand until I let her go back in her cage. But in her cage she wasn't as active as the other one, who I saw sleeping out in the open in the top of her cage and I also saw her get a drink of water. The first one I didn't see her do anything but hide.

The second one let me hold her but gently nipped me a little to let me know that she wanted to back to her cage. Cinnamon Bear did the same thing at the pet store, he nipped me a little to let me know he wanted to be left alone and when I got him home he wasn't ever a biter but he likes to stay to himself too.

The SPCA said these hammies weren't handled much, neglected probably, and seeing that they are two years old they probably won't change much, I might be just looking at an empty cage, which the Critter cages are colorful anyways so I can't see in there good as it is...

So the whole thing doesn't make any sense to do it, does anybody agree or would it be nice to give one of them a home in spite of this? Which one would be the better pet? The more active one of the more docile one? Probably the more active one?

Tell me not to do it, again! Flower fairy where are you?

I am here Cinnamon Bear! Honestly if they are two years old I would go for it. You could make one happy til the end of its days.

Awwww that one lets you hold it ...

You can't always be sure they will behave the same when you get them home as they do in the store so it's hard to choose, you just have to follow your heart!
Are they certain of their age? If they are it would be nice to give them a lovely home to retire too, they could still live some time yet but probably wouldn't be overly active, although you never know with Chinese!
