I was really surprised that he didn't really seem fazed at all by such a big change, there's been a little bit of digging going on & then some muffled munching noises so I think he's quite happy in there!

I'm still trying to figure out how to get a hammock in there at some point, every Chinese needs a hammock

I'm glad you got him, I really want to go get the other one but wales is a very long way from where I am!

He sounds like he will be a confident little fella once he's comfortable with you. Glad he's happy

Looks like he has been pouching well He is lovely. He has different colouring to Whisper so I can tell them apart

I see you have a sand bath in his cage How well do Chinese hammies like the sand baths? Do they use them often? I have one for Izzy but don't know if she'd like it or not?

Winnie, me too, I still keep thinking about the one that got left behind but glad to be able to give Zeki the chance of a nice life.

Serendipity I thought that about his pouches! I wondered where it all came from but I think he must have grabbed a bit of a stash somewhere before he came back up for air, I'm going really easy on extras & not giving him too much food (enough of course) as he's already really big, not surprising as he's had a food bowl & no exercise most of his life!
He's definitely using his wheel now although I haven't seen him yet & having to work for his food so he should be getting fit

The colour difference does help lol! I've always favoured the normal colouring over dom spots but he's proving to me that both are equally alluring

CB I haven't seen Zeki in his sand bath yet but he's obviously been using it each night so I'd say he likes it! Whisper loves hers & so did Zephyr although Zephyr completely ignored hers until I found just the right container

Belated congratulations cypher! I've been lurking this thread looking for some time to pop in. He's really gorgeous and I love the name.

I don't know if it was the smaller house that worked (less to do indoors!) or if he just got hungry but Zeki got up much earlier yesterday evening which gave me some nice time to interact & observe him.
Lovely seeing him get up to speed in his big wheel & sitting there looking very cute with his head poking out of the hole He only had a short run but I had to get up in the middle of the night & he seemed to be doing a marathon run then so I think that's a success & he's finally getting some exercise
He had a little dig in his sand bath, saw him drink for the first time, he had a bottle in the shop but seems to prefer his bowl so that's staying (Ruby if you read this the Rodipet water bowls really are very good, no spills & the hams like them much better than anything else I tried) & a general forage, he's obviously sussed all the places I hide food quite easily so I'm going to have to get a bit more cunning
He has that lovely young ham combination of slight timidity & curiosity "I'm not too sure about this but don't think I can resist!", he's not afraid of hands at all & even when I accidentally startled him walking past the cage he just ran into his tube then soon popped out again.
He's only sitting on my hand for a few moments so far but seems happy with that & didn't even flinch when I lifted him a little so I think we're making good progress so far
Typical Chinesey has made himself some lovely burrows & has a little hole just in front of his wheel going to a burrow that takes him all the way home to his house in the farthest corner
He's figured out he can get down behind the house too so I had some of those really cute tail wiggling in the air moments!

Snapped a few shots of him this time, not great yet but at least you get a slightly better look at him

He had a special treat, his first blueberry…

He's very long! Admittedly he's only my first male but his whole body does seem a fair bit longer than the girls, have to measure him!
