Thanks for all the comments
Mulan is getting on really well, especially since I've decked her new cage out with lots of new toys!

I keep expecting her to be nervous and easily scared but she's the hardiest hamster I've ever met! I was worried because we had to do another 4 hour car journey back from Uni with her the other day and she was awake the whole time.
We stopped occasionally to look for signs of stress but she was just pootling around and was on her wheel for most of it

She'll climb on the cage door when she wants out for cuddles and though she's still pretty independent she loves falling asleep in my dressing gown pocket.
Here are a few new pics, sorry about the quality etc...I'm not too good at taking photos:

So pleased to hear little Mulan is doing so well and being so spoiled! She sounds very much like what a Chinese hamster personality should be. Inquisitive and cheeky! x

Hi all,
Just a quick question really. Mulan was getting on so well and whilst she was always very particular about when she'd want to come play she was always very friendly. I don't know what'd happened but we seemed to have taken a giant step backwards.
Every time I turn the light on in my room she runs away to her house and will hide there till the lights go out. When I manage to catch her out and about she will take a treat from my hand but never lingers very long or seems to want to come out of her cage.
She runs off to her house so much I'm never quite sure how to get her to trust me again because I never see her! It also makes cleaning out her cage nearly impossible because she wont leave - she'll just go to bed

Is it just that she's adopted the life of a recluse?

Also has anyone had any luck with potty training hammys that wee on their wheel? It's literally the only place she does it and I'm not sure how to make her stop
