Re: tree branch
It is recommended only to use fruit tree branches as certain types of trees do contain things that might be toxic should they be chewed. It may have been lying around for a while also and it has been in the dog's mouth so I'd worry about insects, fungus and other bugs in it. Wood needs scrubbed, dryed and baked to make it safe before use.

Re: tree branch
I really am not that clued up about safe tree branches apart from apple branches! Although I have read that is safer to bake them before using them in case they have any fungus or any outdoor nasties lurking. Hopefully someone with more savvy about using tree branches can answer this for you, but the species of tree definitely needs to be safe. x

Re: tree branch
I hate to be a spoilsport but having seen the terrible damage done to dogs by sticks I'd try and get your dog to concentrate on much safer articles to play with. Google it and you will see pics and stories galore of dogs impaling themselves on sticks and sticky through their jaws and palates

Re: tree branch
Thanks souffle but i know the dangers. He doesn't play with them, one he's not allowed and two he's 11 and he really can't be bothered. Its usually lots of small branches and leaves stuck in his collar and caked in mud. But we don't mind
