Cages for Chinese
Hi, I was wondering what cages you have for your chinese hamster? My Ham is sooooooo small, smaller than a Russian, not sure if this is normal. She has a mini duna which seems very good size for her. X

Re: Cages for Chinese
My Chinese ham, Pippa, is in a DIY IKEA hack cage that I made. It's smaller than I would like to have for her, but it's what I have room for at the moment.

Re: Cages for Chinese
Chinese's like to climb, so climbing toys are great for them.
Good cages are the ferplast kios from zooplus. Zoozone 1 and 2 (Advertised as guinea pig or rabbit cages but far too small for that purpose)
The mini duna is a little under the recommended size, my roborovski (smallest hamster) lived in a duna for a week till i upgraded to a zoozone. I just personally prefer as much room as i can fit in my room. Having said that you know your hamster and whether she is happy or not with the space.
Here's my two Robo's zoozone1. First is Wilburs and second Mabels. Third is my syrians Barney cage from zooplus which due to the small bar spacing would also be suitable for a chinese.

Re: Cages for Chinese
The mini duna is small. She would be better in a cage like the Zoozone 1 or a Ferplast Kios. Both give that bit more floor space and more opportunities for accessories. My robo was in a mini duna and all he could do was run up the ramp and back down again. He`s living in a Gabber Rex now which is the same size as the Zoozone 1. Although the Zoozone tanks need the grills meshing which is a pain. The Ferplast Kios would be your best option if you want to upgrade. x

Thanks, I read another post on here and many people say their Chinese are happy in duna. I will monitor her closely x

Re: Cages for Chinese
Don`t get me wrong, the Duna can be fine, especially for Chinese as some can be shy and actually like a smaller space, while others will adapt fine to larger accommodation as long as there are plenty of hidey places for the hamster to play in and under. I have a Mini Duna but don`t use it as a permanent home. x

Re: Cages for Chinese
Ours is actually in an Aurora 450... He used to have an Alexander but this is taller (and has a similar floorspace) so we moved him in when a robo had to move out
The duna could be fine, or bigger could be better. All depends on the ham really
Oh and just so you know, pet stores arent the place to get advice. Pet stores are a big part of the reason so many join the forum with unsuitable cages
