Re: Introducing.......
She is lovely, Chinese hams are so elegant, with their cute face, big eyes and long eye lashes.
Even the way they move is different, she will curl her little tail around your finger just as she curls her way around your heart.

She's been amazing to me already! Such a little busybody...she's formed tunnels & burrows all over her cage already. I've heard that the curl their tail around your finger...I can't wait .

Re: Introducing.......
Yes, they do. Chinese hamsters are good climbers and like mice, use their tails to `grip`. Although gently scooping her up while she`s facing you is the best way to lift them and only for little episodes at a time. Chinese can sometimes be nippy, but they are usually sweet, shy natured little creatures. If they do nip, it`s usually because the hamster feels insecure, or a little frightened. They are so intelligent though that a little hand fed treat soon gets them tamed. On their terms is the best approach. x

Re: Introducing.......
Have fun with your little sweetie! Chinese are the best! I love seeing all the photos, you will have a very happy buddy, they are so smart, they are happiest when they have lots of fun places to play and make new burrows. Mine loves to move her food around, she has her food bowl emptied and relocated in minutes flat! And I agree with RacingHamster, giving them a special treat by hand at playtime has always made them very happy, they will run right over to my hand and hop on after the first week or so of getting them used to me. Mine have loved pumpkin seeds more than anything. And rolled oats and sunflower seeds are also appreciated, I try to mix it up. Have fun!

Re: Introducing.......
I know Chinesey's tend to be more shy than the other species of hamsters, so how long should I let her settle before I begin taming? She was go, go, go yesterday in her new habitat, but of course, is pooped out today! I haven't seen her sneak out at all today

Re: Introducing.......
They usually settle into a daily routine, being awake more around late afternoon. That`s what I found my female did anyway but I suppose they will all have their own ideas! With taming, I would just place your hand gently down and on your flat open hand, place a little amount of millet. She may or may not approach right away, but if and when she does, she will probably take the millet and place her front paws on your hand. Wait until she does this and then slowly remove your hand. Chinese hamsters have a little `grip` so let her hold on if she wants to. Just allow her to come to you. If she isn`t keen to do this right away, what I used to do, was sprinkle the millet right in front of her and then remove my hand and allow her to take it.
Once she`s used to seeing your hand, she will associate it with a little treat. Try not to expect too much too soon and patience will pay off. x
