Black eyed white Chinese?
Is there such a breed as a BEW Chinese? As I have seen some on the internet, but never seen on in P@H, the only place I know sells them. Is there such a thing? And if so, where could I get one from? (for future hammies)

Re: Black eyed white Chinese?
yes there is, there are not many in this country, those that are are with breeders like vectis trying to make the line strong over here.
I dont know if they are willing to part with them being so rare and importiant in the breeding line, but you can always ask

Re: Black eyed white Chinese?
Awww they really are wonderful... I want a chinese after today, I really fell for the tiny female I was cuddling, but I couldn't think of a place to put a new cage...
Next time maybe...

Re: Black eyed white Chinese?
There is such a thing as black-eyed white Chinese, but they aren't a breed They are (I believe) a different pattern of the Chinese species. I currently have two male BEW and one female BEW plus several dom spot carriers, and hope to have a litter or two with some BEWs later in the year. My waiting list for BEWs is rather long already.
My BEWs have been imported from Holland, from the Dutch line that regularly produces BEWs. Sometimes one does pop up in UK Chinese though no-one has managed to establish a UK line from these that gives regular BEWs like the Dutch line, so you may find the odd one in P@H.
This is Brighstone, the first BEW I owned:

They really are stunning aren't they? I can see why people would want one. Hope your litter next year is successful Vectis.

Re: Black eyed white Chinese?
Oh wow Vectis he's stunning!! I have never seen a white chinese in any P@H I go to (they vary rarely have the dom spot in females either) , but I would love to get one one day! As Chinese only come in 2 colors/patterns, there should be more whites available IMO.

Re: Black eyed white Chinese?
It's understandable that they don't have many in shops as it seems to be only the one line from a hobby breeder so far that produces them regularly, plus BEW to BEW doesn't apparently result in pups so it's not quite straightforward for a hamster mill to churn them out. Also they've only become more common in the past 6 years whereas dom spot's been around for 30!
I'm glad they aren't in the rodent mills though as i feel any new mutation needs to be kept separate from existing ones and monitored for health etc. especially where the gene pool is so limited at the moment. I want BEWs, but i want good and healthy ones not small mouse-like ones that are vicious or unhealthy. That's why i am working with others i trust in breeding them and being very selective about potential homes as i would hate to see unethical breeders seeking them for rarity value and 'profit'.
And Brigh says thanks for all the compliments
