Default Little Chinese Monkeys!

So after 10 months of living in perfect harmony, Percy Peanut and Terry Tibbs have decided to call it a day.

Percy literally turned on Terry and started terrorising the poor little mite! After a pretty vicious bite to the balls, Percy was yoinked from the luxury of their huge cage and banished to the Mini Duna.

I do feel a bit bad for him as he is the more active lad and I should probably have left him in the large cage....so now I am torn. They are going away for Christmas and I dont have another cage for them to go in (they cannot go in the big one) I want them both to have the best quality of life and I dont know whether we might need to find a new home for Terry.

We live in a flat and I just dont have enough room for all these cages and i want them both to get lots of attention (difficult when they dont get up till 11pm!

Meh- very gutted it didnt work out but I had a hunch Percy was a bit of a raving lunatic!!

Does anyone have any views on me thinking about rehoming Terry? I want to keep them both so much but the logistics are massively outweighing what my heart says

You took on two.
You should have been prepared a bit more to be honest.
I had a bin spare for when it happened. Within 5 mins of the biting I had them living seperately. They are so much happier.
But do what your heart tells you.
I couldn't of rehomed either one of mine. I love them.
Cute little faces

I was prepared hence why Percy moved straight into the mini duna!

What I didn't have when I got two together was a huge cage that takes up the corner of my living room. Which is why I have no room. I don't want to give either of them up obviously, I just dont have loads of room for another cage (which I will need for them to go away at Xmas)

I love their little faces also, but I want what is bet for them.

I'm sure if you did a bit of furniture shifting, stuff moving and what have you you will be able to fit in a better sized cage. There's always room somewhere, I live in a small flat but I know if I needed to I could move stuff around to fit in another cage (I wont, I only have on hamster, I don't think she really needs two seperate cages lol).

You could always sell the two cages and get two good sized cages instead of one massive one and one small one.

Hi Kezziah, it can be a juggle to fit two cags in when your used to having just the one larger cage. You definately done the right thing by splitting both lads up, so that`s the first move.

I agree with the others about puting them both in a single cage each, even if one has to live in the bedroom and one in the livingroom! If your going away over Christmas? It would be wise to get another Duna or Savic Rody or similar type cage cheaply and either sell the larger cage or give it to the new owner if one comes forward to rehome one of your boys. Just be mindful that it would be a good idea to let one go to someone who actually keeps hamsters already, or someone like myself who adores chinese hamsters!

Not everyone knows a lot about chinese hamsters and they need a sugar free diet, which not many people know about.

Where are you located incase someone is interested in taking one of your hamsters? Although you would need to submit a seperate rehoming form in the correct section if you were to start a post about rehoming. But saying where you are located helps.

Its more about not having any furniture to put them on! We had to acquire some table legs to put this huge cage on! I dont want them on the floor!

I am SE London- i do like the idea of getting another mini duna for Terry and keeping both hamsters- I would have to sell the big one even though I love the thing its a brilliant cage..

Ho hum. The things we do for our little monkeys

Thanks for the advice racing hamster and all x

I'm sorry your boys fought, but am glad neither's seriously hurt. Chinese are terrors for fighting - I now keep all of mine singly. There is a pair of babies I bred who live elsewhere and are still together at 1 year old without a squeak but they're the laziest pair of boys I've ever met! Mini Duna's are fine cages for single Chinese hamsters. I wish you many happy months with your single boys.
